Rachel Carson - Silent Spring

The “control of nature” is a phrase conceived in arrogance, born of the Neanderthal age of biology and philosophy, when it was supposed that nature exists for the convenience of man”.

Today’s Green Thought comes from the 1962 book that alerted the industrialised world to the dangers of unregulated pesticide use -  Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring.

  1. Silent Spring was the first 'Ecological' book I read...Changed my world view overnight...

I feel the comment is a little unfair on the oft maligned Neanderthal. It was, if you follow Jared Diamond's line of reasoning, the Cro-magnon which is the cause of all our troubles.
