that lives eats food, and is food in turn…….
To
grossly use more than you need, to destroy, is biologically unsound.
Much of
the production and consumption of modern societies is not necessary or
conducive to spiritual and cultural growth, let alone survival; and is behind
much greed and envy.

poet and environmental activist Gary Snyder’s 1969 essay ‘Four
